Vista Nation's Anderson & Adams Torch Pat Patton Records

They say records are meant to be broken.

I don't exactly know who "they" are, but the saying definitely rang true Saturday morning in Boulder.

While the Buffs were clawing their way back into the game against USC a few miles north, the 2023 edition of the Pat Patten Invitational was indeed historic.

Both boys and girls course records fell.

And both records fell to Mountain Vista (AKA Vista Nation) runners.

In the boy's race Benjamin Anderson continued to rage over the course like he has all season.

The Mountain Vista junior took down Connor Ohlson's 15:15 course record from 2019, running 15:13.

While the win marked Anderson's fourth-consecutive of the season - keeping his slate clean - this win came with a little more gravity...

What made Anderson's performance all the more impressive is a bit of history - the year Ohlson ran the previous course record, he went on to finish fifth at Nike Cross Nationals

This puts Anderson is very, very good company.

He's been conquering left and right here in Colorado, and in doing so he's quietly run himself into the national conversation.

The boys race was additionally exciting, as the top four - including Centaurus'Jacob Schwarting, Rock Canyon's Owen Whitney, and Cheyenne Mountain's Aiden Le Roux ran the No. 3-4-5 times on the course, running 15:26, 15:27, and 15:29.

Anderson wasn't the only one from Mountain Vista rewriting the record books.

Peyton Adams clearly loves this course - or - she definitely knows how to race it. A year ago she won here, running 18:23.

While she did defend her title, what she took this time around was an 11 year-old course record, which previously belonged to Isabelle Kennedy at 18:07.

The Mountain Vista junior demolished the previous course record to become the first girl to crack 18-minutes on this course.

Adams telescoped away with a 17:55 victory - her first of the season.

She sliced and diced a whopping 12-seconds off the previous record.

Mountain Vista teammate Juliet Frum also dipped under the previous course record, running 18:04.

Boulder's Kiki Vaughn broke up the Mountain Vista party, finishing third in 18:24.

Mountain Vista went 1-2-4-5-7 to dominate the team race.
